During the 1999 session, the Florida Legislature passed a law requiring the Department of Health to establish maximum allowable levels for contaminants in compressed air used for recreational sport diving in this state.  The rules covering the interpretation and implementation of this law are in Chapter 64E-20 of the Florida Administrative Code.  These rules certify the quality of compressed air sold to the public throughout the state for SCUBA diving and provide the method of sampling and testing that must be used, the interval of testing, approved forms and certifications, and enforcement measures.

As required by the statute, all companies must have their air checked by a laboratory company that has been accredited by the or the . You may contact these groups for a list of approved laboratories.  Here is a list of laboratories that we are aware of that offer these services and that meet our requirements:

This list should not be considered as all inclusive.  Any laboratory offering appropriate services accredited by one of the laboratory accrediting agencies may be used.  The laboratories listed here were taken from reports submitted to the department and from laboratories that notify us in writing. If you represent an accredited laboratory not on this list and offering these services, please contact us for inclusion.
